SUMMARY: Under supervision, temporary trainee classification used to qualify ad train candidates for permanent Fire Fighter position. Participates in training program to learn skills required to perform the duties of a Fire Fighter such as control and extinguish fires, drives and operates apparatus in response to an emergency incident; protects life and property; and does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Fire and EMS Certified Preferred. Must have High School Diploma or GED. Texas Driver’s License Class B. Must successfully complete, pass and possess a Basic Fire Fighter Certification test issued by Texas Commission on Fire Protection Personnel Standards and Education within one year of employment. Must be at least 18 years or older to take an entrance exam for a beginning position

QUALIFICATIONS: H.S. Diploma / GED / TX DL / Type 45 wpm.

Prefer bilingual and experience with computer Aided Dispatch and answering multi-line telephones.

Under direct supervision, this employee receives requests for emergency services, dispatches publications equipment, prepares reports, and maintains files.  This employee must be available to work any shift, holiday and weekends as needed for scheduling purposes and performs other assigned duties as required.  Answer multi-line telephones including 9-1-1 lines, communicate with hearing/speech impaired citizens, communicate effectively, courteously, and clearly, responding promptly, hearing in the normal range, to protect the safety of officers and the public, simultaneously listen and comprehend both telephone and radio traffic, assist and record requests for emergency services from the public and departmental personnel and in person, comprehend and apply City ordinances, polices and procedures, document all activity, good knowledge to operate CAD, and operate computer terminals, work in a confined area for 8+ hours and remain seated for long periods of time, operate multi-channel public safety radio system;
